Original Paintings and Process
Prints might be an affordable way to decorate your space. But only original watercolour paintings add uniqueness and character to your home. If you are looking for original watercolour art, you are in the right place. At Coryates Studio, Roger Taylor creates unique pieces that capture the tranquil essence of Dorset.
Meet the Artist: Roger Taylor of Coryates Studio
Roger Taylor is a self-taught artisan specialising in watercolour, wood craft, wood turning, and carving. His art is inspired by the natural beauty and idyllic charm of South Dorset, where he lives. From seascapes to tranquil rural scenes, each piece he creates is unique, original, and one-of-a-kind, infused with a sense of peace and the vibrant hues of nature.
The Watercolour Process: From Blank Paper to Original Artwork
01 - Inspiration and sketching
When meeting Roger, he will take you through each step, from the initial conceptualization and sketching, searching for inspiration, and the detailed steps of painting and layering colour.
02 - Paper and pigment
As each piece is unique, the materials used can vary to depict scenes that are realistic and immersive. From premium paper to professional-grade pigments, each detail is chosen to bring to life the stunning colours and shapes that only nature can produce.
03 - Nothing is rushed
Depending on the design complexity and drying times, each artwork can take between several hours to several days to complete. Nothing is rushed: each step is given the time it takes to ensure that your artwork will be both vibrant and long lasting.

Assuring Authenticity: Original Art, Not Prints
Here, the emphasis is on quality and one-of-a-kind art.
Today, prints are everywhere. They are an easy way to add colour to your living room or office. But do they really capture your personality? Do they inspire feelings? Do they add uniqueness and character to your home? Unfortunately, often, the answer is no.
Here's where an original artwork can make all the difference. Each piece by Roger Taylor is unique, not mass-produced. You are able to select one of the limited-edition pieces available at Coryates Studio or commission your own artwork, but you won't find prints.
Purchasing Roger's Watercolours
There's a reason why you won't be able to purchase items online: seeing the work in person, experiencing how it makes you feel, and taking time to appreciate every stroke is simply not possible through a screen.
That is why Roger Taylor invites you into his Studio: an open, welcoming space where you can explore the current collection, the inspiration behind it, and understand how watercolours come to life.
